Across the vast continent of Africa, diverse landscapes, wildlife and climates converge. The whole world is represented, the sun rising each day over desert and jungle, coast and plateaus. Mount Kilimanjaro embodies this, boasting five distinct climates as the peak rises.
Technically the most straightforward of the Seven Summits, Mount Kilimanjaro is generally the first mountain tackled by those completing the challenge. Likewise, uncomplicated and tasty, the ‘Gin-amanjaro’ is a perfect opening drink using warming ginger - widely farmed in Tanzania - and a zip of lime. Close your eyes and transport yourself.
Ingredients
1. Pour a little sugar onto a plate and use a lime wedge to rim a highball glass (either the whole way around or just half).
2. Place the rim of the glass into the sugar, it will stick to the lime juice.
3. Fill the glass with ice, add gin, then top half and half with ginger ale and soda water.
4. Squeeze in lime wedges on top to taste.
